Racing Queensland release racing dates for 2016-17 season
RACING Queensland (RQ) has handed down its schedule for 2016-17 racing season, with all greyhound clubs receiving the same allocation of race meetings as 2015-16.
Metropolitan racing will remain on Thursday night at Albion Park, with the Brisbane track also retaining meetings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays, the Sunday meet to have 12 races budgeted every week.
Ipswich racing is set to stay on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with meetings held over the Ipswich Show dates in April moved to Albion Park.
Cairns Non-TAB racing has been moved from Saturday night to Friday nights to encourage greater participation from stakeholders, particularly those from Townsville, as well as members of the general public.
Cairns has also been scheduled five TAB meetings on Tuesday nights to accomodate meetings lost at Townsville while the Showgrounds are closed (June 28, 2016, July 5, 2016, December 27, 2016, January 3, 2017, and June 27, 2017), with work currently underway to bring the venue up to TAB racing standard.
The Cairns Cup will be held during the first two TAB slots, with heats on June 28, 2016, with the final to be run on July 5, 2016.
Bundaberg will also have 37 Non-TAB meetings on a Saturday, with Non-TAB racing also conducted up the straight at Capalaba on Saturday afternoons.
Rockhampton retains TAB racing on Wednesday nights throughout the year, with Townsville operating TAB racing every Tuesday evening.
