Superstar Xylia Allen Set For Success In Bogie Leigh Futurity

Racing returns to Albion Park this Thursday night with the final of the Group 2 Futurity. The $40,000 to the winner final is sure to be a wonderful spectacle as trainers and owners look to have their chasers claim the prestigious final named in honour of one of Queensland's and Australia's best greyhounds. Last weeks heats attracted some of the country's best young bitches and the final looks set to be a race to remember with many chances in the race vying for victory.

Box 1 – Celtic Diva ( – Tad Smarter) January 2011
The Joe Menary owned and trained chaser has been a model of consistency winning over $16,000 dollars with the outstanding overall record of 21 starts for 8 wins and 6 placings. At the track and distance she excels with 3 wins and 5 placings from 13 starts. Drawn favourably in the red she has a best time of 30.20 from box 1 set back in October 2012. After a great heat last week where she finished a solid second behind Purcell Bale from box 7 she demonstrated her consistency at the track. If she can repeat her blistering 5.63 first section she will be in front early and will definitely give the other runners something to catch. A live each way chance especially if there is a mix up behind her. From the good producer in Tad Smarter it would be a real home town win if she can greet the judge first.

Box 2 – Miss Karoo (Where's Pedro – Miss Tickles) March 2011
Jumping from box 2 in the final is the classy Miss Karoo for owner trainer Stephen Casey of Doubtful Creek. After a wonderful heat last week behind Winsome Charlee where she started at the big odds of 35-1 she looked impressive in the run home. The March 2011 daughter of Where's Pedro will need to improve on her Albion Park record where she has just the one win from 7 starts, if she is to win the Group 2 final. Not as consistent at headquarters, she has run some very fast times at Ipswich including a 30.45 earlier this year. If she can run close to that in thursday nights final she will be ultra competitive. Rough outside chance.

Box 3 – Purcell Bale (Dyna Lachlan – Princess Bale) April 2011
Starting in box 3 is the first of two finalists for Australia's premier trainer Graeme Bate. After an enormous heat win last week – where she was having her first look at the track she excelled from the 3 box winning in a great 30.19 from Celtic Diva by almost 5 lengths. No doubt she will be well tuned up for the final. With a great record of 17 starts for 7 wins and 5 placings including over $27,000 in prizemoney the young fawn bitch is well travelled having already raced in Victoria, Tasmania and Queensland.

The heat run again showed how strong the depth is in the Bate kennel as she took the heavy knocks and took the runs when they presented pushing past dogs in an impressive victory. With the ability to take a knock and to keep trying, whatever happens in the final Purcell Bale will definitely be a greyhound to follow and will win more than her fair share as she progresses throughout her career. From the super producer Princess Bale (Hullucinate – Gold Rush Bale) she will be one of the favourites and is a very strong chance in the final.

Box 4 – Pearl Za Zinger ( – Kaycee Diva) Nov 2010
Starting from box 4 in the rich final is Pearl Za Zinger for owner / trainer John McCarthy. The blue daughter of Surf Lorian has raced almost her entire career on the Albion Park circuit where she has the great record of 5 wins and 16 placings from the 30 starts on the track. She has also registered a win at Ipswich and has surpassed $23,000 in prizemoney. Last weeks heat win showed that in greyhound racing there is no such thing as a sure thing as she started the outsider in the small 6 dog field to win – albeit in the slowest time of the 4 heats stopping the clock in 30.49. While she will be one of the outsiders in the race she does have a best time at the track of 30.29 from March this year. Rough chance.

Box 5 – Xylia Allen (Turanza Bale – Tayah Bale) April 2011
Fastest heat winner Xylia Allen for trainer Graeme Bate starts from box 5 – the same box she won her heat last week in a fast BON time of 29.98. Just two years of age the daughter of Turanza Bale has had an enormous start to her career and her heat win showed that she has a ton of class and ability. The superstar bitch ran home in an incredible 12.34 seconds just 0.02 off the final section record.

With a career record of 20 starts she has registered 8 wins and 6 placings and over $60,000 in prizemoney. The superstar bitch hasn't been protected and has raced in feature races and series in 4 different states including:-

  • Victoria – Laurels – heat (2nd), semi (2nd) and final (5th)
  • Victoria – Cranbourne Cup – heat (2nd) and final (8th)
  • Victoria – Cup – heat (6th)
  • Tasmania – Cup heat (1st) and final (1st plus TR)
  • Victoria – Meadows Superstayers heat (2nd (2 lengths to Miata)) final (4th)
  • NSW – Golden Easter Egg – heat (6th)
  • Queensland – Bogie Leigh – heat (1st) final

She is an exceptionally strong chaser and if bad luck doesn't stop her nothing will. The greyhound to beat and one to keep an eye on throughout her career. Winning chance.

Box 6 – Winsome Charlee (Where's Pedro – Ramblin' Ruby) Dec 2010
The trained Winsome Charlee representing NSW starts the final from box 6 after a great heat win last week in 30.39 seconds. The Golden Easter Egg runner up looked impressive last week and is developing into a quality greyhound. With a great career record of 30 starts for 11 wins and 14 placings will hope she can go one better in the final. She will definitely be primed for the final and with last weeks look at the track she will be better for the run and is a great each way chance. The NSW representative who will be well supported locally and interstate for the popular Finn's.

Box 7 – Cee Eh Oh (High Earner – Suite Tahlia) Dec 2010
Lake Clarendon owner / trainer Bruce Linnan has Cee Eh Oh engaged in box 7 for the final after a good second last week behind Pearl Za Zinger in the heats. Qualifying second in the slowest heat, the black daughter of High Earner has been consistent throughout her young career. With just 13 starts registering 4 wins and 5 placings, the final will easily be her toughest test to date. She will need to begin better against this quality field and with 5 starts at the track and distance without a win she will start one of the outsiders in the final. She has won at the track over the short sprint trip but looks like the 520m is as far as she wants to go at this stage. A rough place chance and will need plenty of luck.

Box 8 – Tarks Jewel (Primo Uno – Skrat) Nov 2010
Anakie trainer Angel Langton will start former Queenslander (if you can call her that) Tarks Jewel in box 8 for the final. After a distant second to Xylia Allen in the heats, Tarks Jewel will need plenty of luck and a clear passage late to challenge these. Of interest, Tarks Jewel had her first ever race start over the 520 m at Albion Park before heading south to Victoria where she has raced with ability over her short career. On form she appears to prefer the slightly longer journey with wins and consistent racing over the 595m at Sandown and 600m at . After her short career she has won over $16,000 in prizemoney. She will be a rough outside chance in the final.

Box 9 – Bellismo Belle (Fear Zafonic – Matisse's Angel) April 2011
Will need plenty of luck if gains a start – rough place chance only

Box 10 – Sarah's Spirit (Premier Chief – Kathy's Recall) Oct 2010
From a great litter and a start would see another one from the mating qualify for another feature final. Very consistent greyhound who is improving. Rough chance.

Selections – 1. Xylia Allen, 2. Purcell Bale, 3. Celtic Diva

The Bogie Leigh Futurity Group 2 final is race 8 on the card at 9.08pm.
