Racing Queensland stakes a claim in the $1.65 million The Phoenix
Racing Queensland has announced they are gearing up to leave their mark in the $1.65 million race, The Phoenix.
Racing Queensland has clinched one of the sought-after slot-holder spots for the richest greyhound race in the world that is set to take place on December 21 at The Meadows.
Queensland Flame will be back on December 5 to select the representative for Queensland in an invitation only Best 8 race, with a prize of $90k where the winner will receive $60k.
The Queensland Flame strategically scheduled the race two weeks prior to allow the winning greyhound time to get ready for the trip to Victoria and get used to the track through trials for performance and increased media coverage and promotional chances.
Queensland Racing plans to maintain its ownership program to boost involvement and interest in the sport.
“The Phoenix continues to serve as an incredible promotional tool for Australian greyhound racing,” RQ CEO Jason Scott said.
“Over the past three years, the million-dollar feature has transcended participants and punters, garnering widespread interest from the community and mainstream media alike.
“We are excited to see the Queensland Flame provide a pathway for a Queensland representative to shine on the national stage, following in the footsteps of previous champions like Jay Is Jay who won his way through via the same race in 2023.
“We look forward to building on our strong contribution to The Phoenix, with a number of exciting enhancements to our qualifying race and supporting initiatives adding further excitement to this year’s event.”
