Regal Lauryn Lands Lismore Cup Victory

The -trained Regal Lauryn was all class last night when she took out the 2 Workers Club Cup in the state's Northern Rivers region. Beginning well from box three, the red brindle bitch was able to muster plenty of speed and park herself on the outside of the early leader, Edge, as the field raced through the first turn.

Charging down the back straight, Edge managed to put a slight gap on his Queensland opponent. However, as the pair swung for home, Regal Lauryn knuckled down to the task and unleashed a finishing burst, storming down the outside to assume the lead and kick clear for victory. The daughter of stopped the clock in a slick 29.96s, two and a half lengths ahead of Edge who was gallant in defeat. The well supported Battistuzzi had no luck from box five but managed to fill the minor placings.

Regal Lauryn was one of two runners for top Queensland mentor Tony Brett. Punters sent Regal Lauryn to the boxes at the generous odds of $10, while her litter sister, Miss Lauryn, went around at $7.20. The talented bitch was drawn awkwardly in box four and was never in contention after an average beginning.

The bitches, as their names suggest, are out of the great - a multiple group race victor who won 28 of her 48 track appearances and earned over $277,000 for her efforts.

While they may not be as fast as their champion mother, Regal Lauryn and Miss Lauryn are by no means slouches. The dynamic duo have won 22 races between themselves and share a combined prizemoney total in excess of $100,000.

Whelped in January 2011, they appear to have plenty of racing left in them and, based on last night's efforts, it will come as no surprise to see either of them standing on the feature race dais in the near future.
