Remo Belle Proves Too Nippy At Geelong
Geelong GRC was host to the Buxton Real Estate bitches final on Friday night, where Remo Belle was able to snare the $1850 first prize for Lal Lal trainer, Neville Vincent. Starting at lucrative odds of $9.50, the March 2011 daughter of Aston Galilee and Remo Agogo has made her good box manners more consistent in recent starts, and it proved to be the winning factor on this occasion.
After dashing to the front in 8.25 for the first split last week, Remo Belle was clearly out in front again in 8.21 giving nothing else a chance in a dominant display over Sweet Millions, who was the even-money favourite and Britomartis in third.
Stopping the clock in 22.70 for the 400 metres, the black bitch brings up her fourth win from twelve starts for owner Terry Mort.
Remo Belle actually was introduced to full racing at Albion Park, where her first two starts took place, including a win on debut over the 331 metres in January. Fast-forward a month and she had been whisked back to Victoria and eventually brought up another win at Warrnambool in March.
Now with back to back wins and a bit of maturity, she could well find herself racing through the grades in the area rather quickly.
While Neville has only a handful of dogs around the traps at present, his kennel does have some speedy youngsters such as the promising Street Life, who has six wins to its name already from twelve outings. Veteran performer Don's Fantasy is at the other end of the spectrum, having had over 70 starts and $50,000 the bank, but also calls the Vincent kennels home.
Meanwhile, earlier in the week Graeme Brereton was another to snare a feature event courtesy of Derby Ghost's win in the Oscar Furniture Final over Horsham's 570-metre journey.
Starting from box four, Derby Ghost was only fair to begin, but was too strong for Wayne Wrout's College Treat who had hit the lead in the home straight. Xenar Bale was the runaway leader early in the race, but found the going a bit tough in the latter stages, surrendering the lead and College Treat and Derby Ghost were left to fight out the finish. With barely an eyelash between them, the Brereton runner got the judges approval in a photo finish and claimed the $1950 first prize.
Derby Ghost is by Made to Size out of Budeful and has been slowly working its way over more ground in 2013, culminating in this weeks' strong performance for a seventh win in 32 starts.
There were multiple finals on the Horsham card this week, with Peter Hunt claiming the Maiden feature earlier in the day with Crackerjack Babe. Most readers would be more familiar with Peter's star runner Crackjack Lil, who also won on Tuesday, however the Jordean syndicate look to have another good one on their hands with Crackerjack Babe who came from midfield to win in 27.72. Coming into the series with a couple of unplaced runs at The Meadows, the Cosmic Chief pup felt far more comfortable back at the circuit where she started her career.
Considering that Crackerjack Babe doesn't turn two until September, there is still plenty of time for her to develop into a really nice chaser, and it seems likely that her name will be seen in Melbourne again sooner rather than later.
