Rocket Boy brings his career wins over 50% with win at Geelong

Vic greyhound news - Rocket Boy claims his 37th win at Geelong on Friday Feburary 11th
STARTING at the unbackable odds of $1.15, made it win number 37 at last night.

From 74 career starts, this takes the son of x Abscond career rate to 50 per cent in what is rarely seen in greyhounds that have had more than 20 career starts.

Starting from box 7, the four-year-old sprinter never looked like getting beaten taking the event out by 5.62 lengths in a time of 25.75 over the 460m, making it win number six at Beckley Park.

The trained chaser has now been in the money 55 of 74 starts with yesterday's winning making it three on the bounce.

After saluting at last start over the 390m distance at the ridiculous odds of $6.00 with the online bookies, the money kept on coming for the Blue Fawn dog, who was backed in from $1.28 to $1.15 in the last 10 minutes of betting.

But punters had no issues taking the shorts with the shortest priced favourite of the night making it look easy and making it a double for Delbridge after Zipping Scorcher was impressive in race 7 over the 400m distance.

Speaking with kennel representative, Shaun Coulson shortly after the race, he said Rocket Boy had been among the most honest sprinters he has had anything to do with.

“At the age of four he would have to be one of the most consistent dogs I have worked with,” Coulson said.

“He is a no fuss sort of dog and I reckon he still has a few wins left in him.”

Since turning four years of age, Rocket Boy has massed up three races wins from four starts and it looks like there will be more to come if last night's run is anything to go by.

Coulson said veterans races were ideal but indicated that the dog could still mix it with the young up and comers over the short course.

“Veterans races are good because it keeps the dogs over four years of age doing something,” he said.

“They start to struggle sometimes against the younger ones after the age of four but veterans races give them confidence.”

Rocket Boy is trained the same as most of the other Delbridge runners but his personality shines through more than most.

“He is a favourite because he is quiet and relaxing,” Coulson said.

“He free gallops everyday the same as the rest of them and he's just a good dog.”
