Brian Johnstone Memorial Final Box Draw
Last night at Angle Park we witnessed two exciting heats of the Brian Johnstone Memorial with Nirimba Dreaming for Peter Luxton winning heat 1 and Victa Troy for Ron Schadow winning heat 2.
Victa Troy was the fastest qualifier for next week's Group 3 feature running a slick 30.11 for the 515m journey. He began well from box 3 to grab the lead early and from there was never headed. Enid's Charm for Bozidar Stamenkovic held on very well for second after racing up on the pace to be beaten 1½ lengths at only her third lifetime start with Emerley Striker for Peter Hurley running home fairly for third.
Earlier in the night the Peter Luxton trained Nirimba Dreaming caused a minor upset in heat 1 when she was able to race to the front down the back straight after a good beginning and go to the line strongly for a good 2½ length victory in a handy 30.62 at nice each way odds. She defeated Emerley Max for Peter Hurley who ran home well from midfield with favourite Basilika flashing home for an eye catching third after being slow out and checked early.
The box draw for the $36,000 Group 3 Brian Johnstone Memorial Final was conducted last night on course and is listed below. The final will be run next Thursday night at Angle Park and it will be race 8 on the program, listed to jump at 9.11pm (SA time).
