Sidney’s Shadow Sizzles In S.A St Leger

Beautiful box manners combined with a display of blinding speed saw Sidney's Shadow land the 2014 South Australian St. Leger on Thursday night.

Beginning flawlessly from box five, the slippery daughter of and Alana Blues ( – African Beauty) recorded a slick 4.44 for the first section, which set the platform for her all-the-way victory in the $5,000 to-the-winner event.

From that point on, Sidney's Shadow put on a galloping exhibition and showed her rivals a clean set of pads, exploding away to score by 6 1/4 lengths in an electric time of 29.68.

Raja's Ogre (1) overcame a tardy beginning to run on well and finish second, with Boonoona Boy (4) in third.

Sidney's Shadow has already enjoyed a short but illustrious career. The 29kg bitch, who only turned two-years-old in January, has won seven of her 17 career outings and made the final of the South Australian Sprint Championships last month, where she finished fifth behind Ernie Bung Arrow.

She is prepared by Meningie mentor who also trained the 2012 South Australian , Hopes Up. Butcher was only half-a-length of landing the quinella in the race, with the third place-getter Boonoona Boy also under his tutelage.

The win is the biggest of Sidney Shadow's career to date, but there is little doubt that, all things being equal, her name will feature heavily in plenty of the South Australian feature races in 2014.
