The 2008 Coffex Coffee Oaks begins next Wednesday, with 5 heats of the classic at Angle Park. At close of nominations GRSA had 35 greyhounds entered.
Nominations include Sweet About Me which trialled in 29.73 on Monday for Victorian Trainer, Paul Bartolo. Also coming is NSW greyhound, Irreplaceable, which was a Laurels finalist. Okay Supreme, trained by Graeme Bate has won seven of her 21 starts and recently clocked 29.76 around Sandown. In all, there are 9 interstate visitors for the series.
The locals are headed by Wilny Bale, which has clocked 29.86 at headquarters. Trainer Shaun Matcott also has Ashford Bale, Kiola Bale and Everlong Bale, which are all capable of running sub 30 seconds, giving him a strong hand. Last night’s Classic 2008 Prelude winner, Stellar Flare is an improver having had just a handful of starts for trainer Bosko Stamenkovic.
She’s Ruthless is a beautifully bred bitch that has had just the three starts for three wins and will be one to watch through the series. Little Poodle is also undefeated at her two starts and showed good improvement in the second win to run 30.19 at Angle Park. While Rhoda Reason continues to show talent, having won three straight lately.
There will be 2 semi-finals run on Thursday night 25th September and the first 3 greyhounds from each heat will advance along with the fastest fourth placegetter. The other fourth placegetters will be declared as reserves for the semis. The Coffex Coffee Oaks Final is a Group 3 event which carries prizemoney of $30,000 and the winner receives $20,000 The Final is on Thursday 2nd October.
Take note that this meeting will be starting later than the normal Wednesday morning fixtures, with the first race due to jump at 12.14pm.
