The Mogambo and Velocity Thunder (Flying Penske – Subjective Lee) dog won his 14th race over the 515 metre distance at Angle Park to win the South Australian leg of the National Sprint. He will be looking to be the first South Australian winner of the Nationals since Casino Tom in 1993.
Sporting Tears (7) zoomed across the field to lead with Wild Soul pushing up in second. Favourite Sidney’s Shadow (1) began fairly but shifted off the track going into the first turn. Wild Soul, who has been racing (and winning) over 600 metres at Angle Park surpassed Sporting Tears down the back straight to take the lead for home. Sporting Tears seemed to kick again but Wild Soul straightened and sprinted away for a two and a quarter length win in 29.91. Sporting Tears held on for second with Sidney’s Shadow challenging late to finish a neck behind Sporting Tears for third.
Wild Soul, who goes by the name of Raymond around the kennels, is owned by the Velocity Lodge syndicate and has done all his racing in South Australia.
