She’s A Pearl sensational in Group 1 Paws Of Thunder Final
The Pearl is known as the “Queen of Wentworth Park” for good reason and she reaffirmed that tag in a sensational performance to claim the 2023 Group One Ladbrokes Paws Of Thunder Final over 520m.
Dubbed as one of the best Paws Of Thunder finals ever held at the Glebe circuit, the Jodie Lord-trained chaser had to overcome box 8, with plenty of pace to her inside. At boxrise, an even dispatch saw the daughter of Aston Dee Bee and Shez Impetuous follow notable early leader Reflections across at the first turn, taking control of the event heading into the back straight. John Finn's Gatlin battled on gamely and reduced the winning margin to two lengths in finishing second, with Kerry Drynan's Reflections a further one and three quarter lengths away in third. She carved out the journey in a slick 29.50 in recording her 28th career victory from start 46. The $75,000 in first place prize money takes her overall stakes earnings to $1,612,970. It's also her second group one win after taking out the 2022 G1 Golden Easter Egg final.
The successful combination of ownership syndicators Punters HQ and Team Lord have kicked off 2023 where they left off in 2022, having already won the G2 Gosford Gold Cup Final with Punter's Bandit just three weeks into the New Year.
