Simply Limelight fit and ready for National Sprint Championship

Simply Limelight is ready for the National Sprint Championships
Sydney trainer Frank Hurst is confident his two-year-old bitch Good Odds Cash can compete with the favourite for the National Championship Sprint Final – Simply Limelight (pictured) for Peter Rodgers – at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Simply Limelight might have the wood over her from their past two clashes, but don’t write off Good Odds Cash ahead of the National Sprint Championship Final at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

In fact, the two-year-old bitch’s trainer Frank Hurst has declared “she’s going as good as ever”.

These words should reassure punters looking to put their hard-earned on the $4.50 winning chance with Ladbrokes, who triumphed in the Origin Greyhound Series Sprint Final at Albion Park on July 14.

“She’s looking good. She’s going as good as ever,” Hurst told Australian Racing Greyhound.

“She had a run up our straight this week. We had her vetted this morning just as a precaution.

“He couldn’t find anything wrong with her, and we think she’s in great shape.”

Peter Rodgers’ Simply Limelight is currently the $2.80 favourite after winning his NSW National Sprint heat, followed by the final.

The fellow two-year-old beat Good Odds Cash on both occasions, and now has six consecutive wins to his name.

But Hurst is not intimidated by Simply Limelight’s sudden emergence as a star greyhound.

“In the final, Simply Limelight had the one box,” he said.

“And I think it was fifth or sixth at the first turn, and it got a dream run up the inside.

“If she (Goods Odds Cash) comes out and finds the front straight away, yes (she can win), because she can run the time.

“She’s proven that – she’s won a few decent races.

“She won the big Group race in Queensland (Origin Greyhound Series Sprint) not so long ago.

“So she can run the time. We’re not overly-confident, but we’re optimistic.”

Meanwhile, Rodgers has been delighted with the form of Simply Limelight.

And the key has been to keep him racing, coming up with a personal-best time of 29.62 seconds in last Saturday’s Free-For-All at Wentworth Park.

“Once dogs are going well you have to keep them going, you can’t be worried about them getting hurt – they have to stay race fit,” Rodgers said after the race.

“It is a 16-days turnaround from the NSW Championship to the National Championship, so Simply Limelight had to race again before next week.”
