The black bitch, trained by Aaron Newstead, bested her littermate Key And Chaos, the previous record-holder, who had set the mark at 16.45 just a week earlier.
Breaking cleanly from the rails, Snake And Ladder displayed explosive early pace, carving out a 2.32 first sectional time that set the tone for her commanding victory at $3.80 with Picklebet.
Key And Chaos, the $2.40 bookmaker favourite, chased valiantly but finished 1.75 lengths adrift in second, while Oscar Dutton secured third place for Andrew Monaghan. Robell Clyde rounded out the top four.
