Stayers Set To Star In Thursday’s Sandown Cup Heats

Forty of Australia's best ‘half-milers' will line up in five heats of the $143,000 Radio Sport 927 Cup at Sandown Park on Thursday night.

With Australia's richest ever prize for stayers on offer – $100,000 to the winner of the final – trainers from around Australia have rallied to nominate for the event.

Excluding the reserves drawn for the heats, the runners include:

  • A combined $1.9 million in career stakes earnings
  • 28 individual race finalists
  • 79 Group race finals
  • 8 individual Group race winners
  • 14 Group race titles
  • 11 interstate greyhounds representing every Australian state

“The Club is absolutely delighted by the response to this year's Radio Sport 927 series,” said Sandown Greyhound Racing Club Chief Executive .

“This is the first time $100,000 has been offered for a staying race, and to see greyhounds from around the country compete in the series helps reinforce the Sandown Cup's position as the premier staying race in the nation.”

Full fields for Sandown's Thursday night meeting are now available here.

The winner and three fastest runners-up will take their place in the final on Thursday 14 May.

The box draw for the final will take place on track at (approximately) 9.45pm and will be available after 10.00pm.
