The 28kg black bitch, renown for her lightning run home, surprised many when she jumped well from box one and held down second place early before taking up the ascendancy at the post the first time and exploding away.
Once she had done that, it was more a matter of whether or not she could break the track record as opposed to winning the race.
In the wash-up, she scored by no less than 15 lengths from Zipping Rory (2) with Dusty Moonshine (4) 1 1/4 lengths further astern in third placing. Beks (5) grabbed fourth place to advance to the final.
The win takes the Darren McDonald trained super star’s earnings beyond $600,000, an amount which could easily grow by another $25,000 after the final next Saturday night. There is a little doubt that she is in the best form of her career, winning five of her last six races and the Group Three title looks to be at her mercy next week.
Earlier in the night, the Ron Bell trained Avondale Maurick upset his more fancied rivals to take out the opening heat in 42.57.
Joane maintained the lead down the back straight, however as the field swung for home, she was under siege from a quartet of dogs including Avondale Maurick on the fence and Greta’s Rescue (8) out wide.
Avondale Maurick railed superbly into the straight and kicked clear to land the event by two lengths from the youngster Greta’s Rescue with Zipping Maggie (4) finishing the race off well to grab third. Joane managed to hang on for fourth and claim a spot in next Saturday’s $25,000 to-the-winner final.
