Gary Fahey Steals The Show At Devonport Greyhounds

Mangalore trainer Gary Fahey stole the show at Tuesday's NWGRC meeting conducted at the Devonport Raceway, by winning four races on an eleven event programme.

It is the first time in Fahey's long and illustrious career as a trainer that he has achieved the feat.

“I've prepared several trebles and trebles as well as placegetters, but never four winners on the one programme,” he explained on Thursday.

Fahey won the first three races on the card with the litter-mates Martello Towers, Bastille Border and Shadow Reef and then made it four for the day with the speedy Dennes Point in the second last.

Martello Towers, Bastille Border and Shadow Reef are by from the bitch Becky Baba and are raced by the trainer in partnership with leading bookmaker Barry Heawood, a prolific breeder in his own right.

The particular litter comprised four bitches and two dogs and to date has provided four winners including Silver Strand, with another member to debut next week.

Dennes Point is by Go Wild Teddy from the Knockabout Wok bitch Wooreddy and is raced by the trainer, who enjoys great success with only a small team.

Wooreddy has produced several litters which include the good winners I'm A Fencer and Break Even and has since had a litter by Talks Cheap, which are currently being broken in.

“My brother purchased Wooreddy after she has had several successful litters and we are naturally hopeful that she can continue to carry on the good work,” he explained.

Gary Fahey has handled many top greyhounds during his period of involvement in the sport, but none better than the 1982 Thousand winner Kudaleen.

“I also won 35 races with the very good Lygon Leader and had a soft spot for Young O'Reilly, which ran third behind the champions Brother Fox and Busy Vintage in the 1985 Hobart Thousand,” he explained.

Meanwhile another veteran of the sport in Sheffield trainer Gerald Mace also as the trainer of multiple winners at Devonport by preparing Even Force and Dyna Falcie to win their respective races at good odds.

By from the bitch Eve, Even Force arrived at the bolters odds of $37 and has now won two of 24 Tasmanian outings.

Dyna Falcie, by Where's Pedro from the Kiowa Sweet Trey bitch , is the winner of five of 43 outings and paid a dividend of $10.

Smart bitch Topline Dee also returned to the winners circle at the meeting for Carrick trainer Les Barker.

By from the bitch , she has now won eight of 32 lifetime outings and has proven to be a handy money-spinner for the Barker kennel.
