Tasmanian Raider’s Guide all the way in 2024 National Distance Champs

Tasmanian qualifier Raider’s Guide produced a strong staying display to defeat a quality field in the Group 1 National Distance Championship at Angle Park on Saturday night.

The 2024 TAS National Distance Champion was sent out a +230 race favourite off the back of a very impressive 33.86 595 metre solo trial at Angle Park between races on Wednesday night, August 14.

After a concerted betting push at online bookmakers from greyhound punters, Raider’s Guide was backed in all the way from +500 off the back of the flying first trial.

In leading all the way, the Tasmanian-trained 2024 Group 1 Rookie Rebel winner at The Meadows over 600m, won his 15th race from his last 18 starts.

The Gary Fahey-trained greyhound led by three lengths at the winning post the first time, before driving home for a 42.55 second win by 8.25 lengths in the $85,000 to-the-winner final over NSW representative Ritza Piper (+750), who was finishing hard at the end.

Fellow NSW representative, and Greyhound Clubs Australia (GCA) wildcard finalst, Fahey’s Magic, who finished a further 0.25 lengths from the the second greyhound, paying +1600 at greyhound betting sites.

Tasmanian Raider's Guide led all the way from box eight to win the 2024 Group 1 National Distance Championship at Angle Park in 42.55 for trainer Gary Fahey.

Remarkably, Radier’s Guide contested last year’s 2023 Group 1 National Sprint Championship at The Meadows, finishing fifth behind Saige Tenniele.

Raider’s Guide has now had just seven career starts over the staying trip for five wins.

The son of Zambora Brockie and has racked up 34 wins from 62 career starts with a further 16 placings, earning connections $388,200 in prizemoney.

Raider’s Guide’s dam, Sacred Shadow, was a 22-time winner from 87 starts, all in Tasmania.
