Tifi’s Terrific Progeny Show Talent On The Racetrack

Breeding a fast dog is one of the most risky and challenging tasks within the greyhound industry- just because you have a fast dam that does not always equal fast pups. One particular bitch that has managed to thrive in both departments is the smart stayer . The beautifully bred daughter of Bombastic Shiraz and prolific producer Chili Berger was a handy race bitch in her own right; however the spotlight is now on her career in the breeding barn which has already proven to be highly successful.

Tifi was owned and trained by Nowra Hill mentor Chris O'Brien and had forty five starts which resulted in eight wins with a further twenty minor placings. Tifi, who was predominantly raced as a stayer won an impressive four races at with a personal best of 42.33 for the 720 metre trip. Tifi was retired in January 2010 and was mated to Collision.

From her first litter, Tifi produced some handy chasers including Chasing Diana- a multiple Wentworth Park winner with a personal best of 30.22 seconds whilst she was a winner of five races with ten minors from thirty one starts overall before tragically breaking down, Gimme Range- a winner of seven from twenty one, Our Money Box- a city winner in 30.19 seconds with eight wins and twelve minors from thirty five starts and also the star of the litter Tifia who has recorded nine wins so far from twenty five starts with a flying time of 29.77 seconds at Wentworth Park. Whilst there is no doubt talent and speed from the first litter, it is safe to say that Tifi is making the most impact with her second litter to Champion sire Where's Pedro.

The litter is headlined by the dazzling Double Twist who is trained by the astute Garry Edwards of Nowra Hill. The stunning black bitch was a winner of the Three Nowra Summer last Sunday and looks to have a very bright future. Beginning brilliantly from the cherry box in the decider, the 25 kilogram lightweight showed plenty of tenacity when mustering underneath challenger Ronray Miss on the first turn before kicking clear down the back to claim victory by a widening seven lengths on the line. In snaring the $25,000 winners , Double Twist clocked a scintillating 29.65 seconds for the 520 metre trip and recorded her seventh win from a mere ten starts with another two seconds to her name.

Another smart member of the Where's Pedro x Tifi litter is recent Bulli winner Somebody Tifi who scorched around the Slacky Flat circuit in a 22.54 seconds on Monday evening on a rain affected track. The youngster who also comes from the Nowra area is trained by Owen Makin, who is no stranger to speedy chasers. Monday nights triumph was Somebody Tifi's fifth in a row and seventh overall from only twelve starts, with the sleek black speedster also claiming best of the day times twice at his home track Nowra throughout his short career. With an impressive record to his name, it will be very exciting to see the promising pup develops as he steps up beyond the 400 metre distance- with a powerful staying mother and a father known for throwing strength into his offspring, Somebody Tifi should adapt well to the extra distance when he inevitably makes the transition.

Another talented pup showing promise is Glama Pak who won impressively on debut at Dapto for Bringelly trainer . Beginning from box one, the red fawn bitch showed plenty of speed when pinging the lids, stretching out to win the event by four and one quarter lengths on the line in a smart 30.08 seconds. The 28 kilogram sprinter will return to the Dapto racetrack tomorrow, jumping from box four in the Maiden final and looks hard to beat despite the awkward draw.

It should come as no surprise to anyone that Tifi has thrown some fast pups, with the light brindle chaser coming from the famous dam line that has produced some racers who have gone on to become successful stud dogs and brood bitches themselves. The most famous of Chili Berger's progeny is the air borne champion who claimed the 2007 group one National Sprint Championship in a breathtaking last to first performance. Also coming from this legendary producer was Tifi's litter brothers Danny Phantom who was a winner of twenty three from sixty one and the grand old campaigner who proved himself to be the king of Wentworth Park throughout his four year racing career, claiming 24 wins at the Ultimo circuit, just one success short of Stately Bird's long standing record. From her litter to Awesome Assassin, Chili Berger also threw the speedy Awesome Berger who won eighteen from forty two starts and has since gone on to become a terrific producer with her most famous pup being the brilliant Smart Betsy.

With sensational bloodlines and her proven ability to throw fast offspring, Tifi looks set for an illustrious and prosperous breeding career, with her pups already establishing her as a very valuable brood bitch within the industry.
