Tony Brett Sizes Up Queensland Futurity Number Four

If omens were anything to go by Tony Brett's young bitch Bogie Gem would be a sure thing this Thursday night.

The talented black bitch, out of Bogie Leigh, will line up in Heat Four of the night's Group Two Bogie Leigh Queensland Futurity, a $38,000 race which trainer Tony Brett has won three times including his 2003 winner, and Hall of Famer, Bogie Leigh.

The Queensland Futurity dates back to 1973 at the Gabba, and has been won by some of greyhound racing's star performers including , Springtime Magic and Mladys Fool.

The race is for best female greyhounds whelped on or after May 1, 2006, and this year's series has bought a plethora of talent to Albion Park.

Bogie Gem is jumping from box two in her heat (Race Seven) and will have some tough competition with last week's top performance from Blue Osti (box eight) in the Winged Runner Final.

In only her first start at Albion Park, Blue Osti finished a half a length behind winner Grampian, and is expected to improved from this run.

The other heats of the night showcase several southern greyhounds take on the Albion Park regulars including Brisbane performer in Heat One (Race Three).

Makushla, who regularly shows strong early speed, will jump from box four in the race, and will be looking to recapture her blistering performance from two weeks ago where she ran 30.05.

Next to Makushla in box three will be 's Irreplaceable, who has made the trip up from racing in recent starts at , and , to try her luck.

Box eight's Take A Squizz should also be considered in this race, showing great form in previous starts, and should not be discounted after an unlucky run last week.

Heat Two will see Gregory Brennan's Millenium looking to replicate her performance from the 16th February, where she won in a Group winning time of 29.98.

The classy bitch should head into the race favourite on the TOTE, ahead of Classy Cha Cha in box seven, and High Class Broad in Box Eight.

The third heat (Race Six) is an open race with National Futurity winner looking like a strong chance with a very smart record of 14 starts for seven wins, two seconds and two third placings.

Dolly Sprite, who is by Surf Lorian and out of , will have her second start in Brisbane, and jumping from box two will be a good each way chance.

That's My Missus boasts the best run at Albion Park out of the field, running in a smart 30.25 in November last year, however, has only had three starts since that race.

In Heat Five (race eight) local sprinter Whirly Storm has her third start back in Queensland and will be looking to regain her form from late last year where she ran a 30.33 in December before heading down south.

Bundaberg hope Elite Tory, trained by Kevin Bryant, will be one to keep an eye on, showing solid short course form up north and boasting a second at Albion Park over 520m in early February.

Group greyhounds are theme of Thursday night racing at The Creek, with Queensland Greyhound of the Year, Size Can Matter, lining up in the Best Eight Give Me Five at Stud (Race Five) over 520m.

Jumping from box two, the international champion will need to be on his game to overcome the early speed of Troy Sharpe's Kay Size State, who will jump from box three.

Reg Hazelgrove's quiet achiever Eskimo Dancer has the lucky red box in this race, and has shown great improvement running with Best Eight fields, and should be thrown any exotics.

Sangio King also has the ability to cross the line first, boasting a best time of 30.00 this year, and boasting first sectionals of 5.76 when he can get a clear run.

Middle distance racing steps up to the next level this Thursday night also, with the third grade Five D Cup over 600m (Race Two).

A bevy of rivalries have blossomed at Albion Park over this distance and in this race shall come to fruition with Kathy's Recall in box two, Monarch's Merlot in box six, Bikini Beach in box seven and in box eight.

These four have continued to challenge each other each week, and it is sure to be a tight finish.
