Iconic Queensland trainer Tony Brett is supposed to be downsizing his leading greyhound racing kennels, but the numbers have increased recently with a surge of greyhounds arriving from everywhere for the Queensland Winter Carnival riches.

Tony Brett is caretaker training two of the 2023 Group 2 Flying Amy Classic heat winners, Alpha Zulu and Umberto for Victorian greyhound Jason Thompson.

Brett will also take on Thompson's exciting New Zealand (NZ) import for the 2023 Group 1 Brisbane Cup heats, should he win his Sandown race debut on Thursday night.

West Australian (WA) trainer will also be sending Brett his 2023 Group 1 Perth Cup winner, Elite Machine, after he contests the Listed Winter Cup at Cannington on Saturday night.

Despite retiring 2022 Queensland Greyhound Of The Year, Orchestrate, due to injury last week, Tony Brett says that this years Queensland Winter Carnival is shaping up as the best yet.

“They are coming from everywhere,” Brett said.

“The best of the best will be here in Queensland and if you want to see good dogs race then there is nowhere else you want to be than here.”

Tony Brett is happy with the draws he got for the $150,000 to-the-winner Flying Amy Classic final, which puts Umberto in the red box, and Alpha Zulu in the five box.

Brett thinks what Alpha Zulu is achieving given his young age is outstanding.

“Alpha Zulu is a really serious dog,” Brett said.

“He has had a limited preparation – with just eight starts now – but for him to do what he did, it really impressed me and he has all the upside, no doubt.

But Brett think both visitors will improve again for this week's 2 final.

“With another week up here, they will be improved again by it and they will be ready to go.”

On Thursday night at Albion Park, Brett's two temporary greyhounds will take on the three South Australian ‘Victa' littermates headed by Victa Damien, Queenslander Magistrate, Victorian , and New South Wales' greyhound .
