2024 Group 1 hopeful has been ruled out of Friday's final due to an injury discovered following his victory in the Cup heats on Thursday, May 16.

Trainer revealed that Unreal Speed has a fracture in his fibula, which will require some time to rehabilitate but should not impact his racing future.

Britton anticipates that the greyhound will require at least a month off.

Having won eight out of his 11 races so far, Unreal Speed was the quickest qualifier for Sandown's premier stayers race.

With the Sandown Cup heats being Unreal Speed's first attempt at elite company, the son of Space Star and Shiny Bright has now had only four starts over distances longer than 700 metres for three wins and a third.

Greyhound bookmakers had recognised Unreal Speed's upside potential, posting him up as the +180 second favourite, behind who was priced at +120.

Unreal Speed's scratching now means that first reserve, Ritza Piper, will now secure a spot from box seven in Friday night's $175,000 to-the-winner final Group 1 final at Sandown.

Greyhound betting sites have reacted to the scratching news by winding in Valpolicella's odds to win her third Group 1 final from +120 into an odds-on quote of -133.33.

2024 Group 1 runner-up, , has firmed in betting from +600 to be a firm second favourite at +340.

Ritza Piper was already priced as a +800 chance to win the Sandown Cup as first reserve, and has only trimmed up to +700 despite now being a guaranteed starter.
