Valenti’s Scuttlebut Too Good In Tough Staying Affair

Talented chaser Scuttlebut has returned to the winners' circle after beating a good field in the Free For All event over 715m at Saturday Night.

The Ricky Valenti trained chaser was expected to put on a bold showing in her return to the longer trip and was sent out as $2.40 favourite, ahead of the widely travelled Kalden Mayhem ($3.10) and the in-form Surf a Coin ($5.80).

Starting from the rails alley, Scuttlebut was able to begin swiftly and take up the leading position from race bolter Freeway Miles with Surf a Coin a couple of lengths behind.

Heading past the post the first time in 15.71, the margin had now extended to over five lengths, while Kalden Mayhem was at the tail and wide spotting the leader some twelve lengths heading into the back.

Around the final bend and no-one had been able to cut back the margin of Scuttlebut, despite the runs coming thick and fast from the tail. Getting a little weary, the Big Daddy Cool-Ranger Kaitlyn bitch had done enough to bring up her 14th career win in a gallant time of 42.29.

Collecting the Runners'-up was ($8.80) while Time To Speed ($7.40) for third place after being forced three and four wide in the latter stages of the race. Surf a Coin failed to flatter in an uncharacteristic performance, so to did Kalden Mayhem who never came into the race.

of Scuttlebut must surely be looking towards the upcoming Series after returning to the form that saw her win ten out of fourteen starts over the longer trips back in the early stages of the year.

The best performance over the sprinting trip for the 11 event card would go to former -Victorian chaser Oliver Allen who lead all the way in 30.37. After competing over the middle distance in his past two appearances, the Primo Uno-Rosemary Bale chaser relished being back to the 530m and a box one draw was a nice bonus.

In a competitive race, there was mass carnage entering the back straight which saw , Mullum Magic and Hallpack Jack all suffer severe checks while Spring Legend made it an honest race by stalking the eventual winner throughout in a game performance.

Oliver Allen had too much class though, and Paul Stuart has this greyhound in a nice vein of form since crossing the nullabor. Saturday nights' victory makes it eight wins out of his past eleven starts adding to his total tally of seventeen from fifty-one attempts.

We Paint Houses is another former Victorian enjoying success in his new home. Starting from box eight, he mustered quickly to settle second behind the speedy . Down the back straight, We Paint Houses found another gear however and ran away for a comfortable victory in 30.91.

It was a rough affair with Raffles taking a heavy fall about 50 metres from the start and Waroo Bale coming to grief in the same spot a lap later, but none of it could impact the effort of We Paint Houses. took over training duties of the son of back in April and Saturday's victory was the third since the relocation.
