$200 Fine Only For Trainer Who Struck Her Greyhound

Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV) Stewards have opened a can of worms by imposing only a $200 fine on a female greyhound trainer who was found guilty of striking her greyhound.

GRV Stewards on 5 May 2009 conducted an inquiry into an incident which occurred at the Geelong Greyhound Racing Club trial session conducted on 28 February 2009.

Stewards heard evidence from Ms. Delaine Vigor, four registered persons and one unregistered person.

Stewards also tabled a written document in the form of a statutory declaration, and several character references.

After hearing the evidence, Stewards charged Ms. D. Vigor with breach of GAR 86(q) of Greyhounds Australasia Rules in that she did engage in conduct which was detrimental to the interest, welfare and image of greyhound racing in that she did physically strike a greyhound to the head area* prior to boxing the greyhound, which was to take part in a trial conducted by the Geelong GRC on the 28 February 2009.

Ms. D. Vigor pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Stewards found Ms. Delaine Vigor guilty as charged and fined her the sum of $200.
