AVONDALE Porche has won the Group Two Cranbourne Cup in one of the most exciting country cup finishes by the barest of margins from a gallant Oakvale Destiny, who was looking to add to her two previous group final wins.
Avondale Porche led easily from box five in an early split of 5.36 from Whodat Knockin’ from box eight. Oakvale Destiny was able to muster up to a clear third and those three cleared out from the rest of the field.
Whodat Knockin’ continued to apply pressure to the early leader, but was unable to pass the Kel Greenough-trained star who won in a flying 29.98. Oakvale Destiny provided a thrilling late charge after having limited luck in transit to go down in a thrilling finish.
The win was the biggest win of Avondale Porche’s career and the $45,000 winner’s cheque will take her earnings to $94,935 and her record to 15 wins from just the 20 race starts. The win is a testament to the patience of leading trainer Kel Greenough, who continues to prove himself as a master of bitches.
The daughter of Knocka Norris and Micro Lee looked to have the greyhound world at her feet in late 2013, but would spend nearly a year on the sidelines through injury and seasonal issues. The efforts from all involved have proved well worth it, with this star claiming a sensational victory that might just be the tip of the iceberg.
