Brockie firms as Melbourne Cup favourite following Shootout win

STAR sprinter Zambora Brockie has firmed in the betting for the Melbourne Cup (515m) at Sandown Park on November 18, following his stunning in the Group 2 Sandown Shootout (515m) over the track and trip last week.

Trained by Anthony , the black dog's price has been crunched from $15 into $7.50 with Sportsbet ahead of the heats of the $420,000 to the winner series, set to be run and won this Friday.

A son of Nitro Burst and Flying Liddy, Zambora Brockie has won 27 of 44 starts including five group wins and over $419,000 in prize money, while he holds a commanding personal best of 29.14 over the 515m distance at Sandown.

Also firming in Sportsbet's all-in markets are Barton Bale and Fanta Bale, currently $15 and $17 respectively.

Barton Bale will head into the series having won seven of 10 career starts, while Fanta Bale will be first up following her stunning victory in the Group 1 (600m) at on October 31.

Drifting slightly is Dundee Osprey which is $15 out to $17, with the son of Fabregas and Dundee Rose looking excellent value at those odds.

The powerhouse performer ran third in the Sandown Shootout last week, but boasts an exceptional record at the track with six wins and four minors from 13 starts and a 29.11 personal best.

Value appears to be with NSW chaser Ando's Mac which has remained steady at $26 despite winning the Group 1 Vic Peters Classic (520m) at Wentworth Park on October 29.

Trained by Jason Mackay, the fawn sprinter debuted at the track last week, finishing an unlucky fifth behind Allen Terminator.

With a run at the track under his belt, punters can expect improvement from the son of El Grand Senor and Brook's Doll heading into the Melbourne Cup heats.

Ando's Mac's owner, Luke Anderson, spoke to Australian Racing Greyhound following his greyhound's win in the Vic Peters Classic, saying it is a dream come true to be racing a top class chaser.

“It is pretty indescribable,” Anderson said.

“When my kids were born was the best moment of my life, but [winning the Vic Peters] is definitely second – it was a great feeling.

“Obviously he has a long way to go to win the Melbourne Cup, but if he can nail the start like he normally does and get to the front he is a very hard dog to run down.”

Queenslander Outside Pass, which finished second in the Shootout, is also paying $26, as is Sandown track record holder Unlawful Entry.

Also representing the Sunshine State in this year's series will be Zabdon Ferrari ($34), Split Image ($41) and Tripum ($41), all of which were impressive in winning a Prelude of the Melbourne Cup last Friday.

Victoria must be the only state we race in ?don’t read much about racing in over states  on this site ! you would think one who was a columnist in Maitland could have wrote a little on the Maitland Maiden Future Stars Final  won by Little Black Joe, now he has been sold to Victoria beating the quick Black Jack Opal, with a name like Joe one would have thought he would get a mention , 3 out of  15 is poor?
