The outstanding career of He Knows Uno reached yet another exhilarating high after a brilliant come-from behind victory in the Group 2 AWM Distance Championship over 725 metres at The Meadows on Saturday night.
The win takes He Knows Uno To 16th on the all time greyhound record prizemoney list, ahead of Brett Lee who is 17th, and the highest record prizemoney of the currently racing greyhounds.
The son of Primo Uno and Honeymoon’s Over was last to leave after boxrise, but quickly used his racing smarts to find a forward rails position with a lap to run.
With litter sisters Irma Bale and Fyna Bale setting the pace out in front, He Knows Uno slowly began to wear down the pair before striding away to a 42.75 victory – his first over the half-mile trip at The Meadows.
Fyna Bale raced into second place, one and a half lengths away from the winner, while favourite Irma Bale ($1.70) finished third.
Trainer Mick Patterson was in awe of his charge’s performance.
“This dog just tries his heart out each and every week. I come from a small town with a population of 2500 and everyone gets right behind him… it’s been such a great journey. I’d really like to thank all those people who support He Knows Uno and for The Meadows for again putting on a great night.”
He Knows Uno has now won seven of his last eight starts, including victory in the Group 1 Gold Cup in June at Albion Park. Win number 30 from 66 starts pushed the black chaser’s prizemoney to over $418,000 and he goes into the upcoming National Distance Championship series as one of the greyhounds to beat.
