Australia’s wonder dog Miata will start as one of the shortest priced favourites at The Meadows despite drawing box five in a heat of the Group 1 Macro Meats Superstayers over 725 metres on Saturday night.
Greyhound racing’s version of champion mare Black Caviar will be looking for her 21st win from just 24 starts when she lines up on the weekend, fresh off her outstanding Group 2 Zoom Top win at the Broadmeadows circuit last week, which included two new sectional records.
In her last 10 starts, the daughter of Bombastic Shiraz and Winsome Bluebird has won by a combined total of 97 and a quarter lengths in a short career that has also included two Group victories and nine track or sectional records.
Trained by Paul Stuart, Miata will take on the likes of front-running stars Mist Opportunity (box one) and Befitting (box four), two chasers from Queensland who will make Miata’s job tricky, especially considering the draw. The classy Echelon will also be out to ruin Miata’s amazing current hot streak, beginning from box seven on the back of an easy win at Warrnambool on February 18.
New Zealand’s brilliant stayer Thrilling Brat will be looking to improve on his superb second behind Miata last week in the first of the heats, starting from box four in another quality field. The son of Hallucinate and Thrilling Faith will renew rivalries with the classy Shimaguni (box two) and Group winner Bling It On (box one).
The top four placegetters from each of the two heats will progress to the Group 1 Macro Meats Superstayers final on March 3, on a night where the Group 1 Rover Mowers Australian Cup will also be run and won.
