More Than Memory Lost, DNA Testing Says Sire Lost

A very interesting story from GRV HQ today involving the aptly named greyhound Memory Lost.

On the track Memory Lost raced 86 times for 14 wins, 11 seconds and 7 thirds; but the real problems have only began with Memory Lost when owner tried to breed with her.

Officially Memory Lost raced as a December 2002 whelping by little known sire Denver's Memory, out of the maiden performer Ashen Alibi.

However from the GRV report, it appears that during the compulsory DNA testing that all brood bitches must undergo, it has come to light that based on DNA profiling; Memory Lost could not have been sired by Denver's Memory.

Memory Lost has one litter on the ground by overseas sire Tims Crow that she whelped in May 2008.

GRV on 14th October 2008 and 12th January 2009 conducted an into all matters pertaining to the DNA discrepancies reported for the greyhound ‘Memory Lost'.

Stewards heard evidence from Mr. Tony Duncan (Owner) and Mr. Hugh Bonderenko (Studmaster).

A general report from Dr. ( Veterinary ) regarding whelping dates for greyhounds was also tabled at the Inquiry.

In addition, numerous DNA tests have been conducted over several months in an attempt to determine the sire of ‘Memory Lost'.

To date, these tests have not matched the necessary DNA profile.

After hearing the evidence, Stewards delivered an open finding as, at this stage, fault could not be directly attributed to a particular party.

Pursuant to GAR136, Stewards further directed that the litter “Tim's Crow” x “Memory Lost” (whelped 15 May, 2008) be registered for racing purposes only.
