Beginning like a shot from box 5, So Seductive ($2 favourite) was never threatened as she smashed Total Denial’s March 2002 time of 41.80.
“She’s really got her confidence up at the moment,” said Jackie Greenough, who handled the greyhound for trainer and husband Kelvyn.
“After her run a few weeks ago (when she ran 41.86) we thought she’d go close to the record with the right conditions.”
So Seductive has now won six of her seven starts over the staying journey, her only defeat coming after a chequered run in the Group 3 Topcat Cup at the Meadows in which she flashed home to finish second behind Blue Lorian.
Mickie Keato chased valiantly to finish 4.75 lengths away in second, with New South Wales raider Slick Lee a further six lengths away third. In the night’s other heat, South Australian Satanic Cash again showed his class in defeating Sitka by 5.75 lengths in a slick 41.95.
Satanic Cash ($2.40 favourite) began well but soon dropped back through the field as Sitka took the lead through the second turn. Some 12 lengths adrift of the lead upon entering the back straight, Satanic Cash unleashed his customary finishing burst to sweep around the field and claim his 26th race victory and qualify for his ninth Group race final.
Trainer Robert Britton continued his good form at Sandown Park, training a winning treble while Darren McDonald unearthed another speedster when Perfect Fancy won the final event in 29.45.
The $36,000 Group 2 Sir John Dillon Memorial final will be run at Sandown Park on Thursday 28 October. The final field for the $25,000 winner-takes-all Group 3 Macro Meats Shootout will also be announced on the night.
