Stars Draw Awkwardly In 2012 Group 1 Australian Cup Heats

Some of the best sprinters in the country have been allocated tricky in heats of the Rover Mowers (525 metres) in a bumper night of racing at The Meadows this Saturday night.

Victors from this weekend's eight heats will progress to the Group 1 classic, this year worth $175,000 to the winner for the first time in the race's 54-year history.

Queensland's Glen Gallon – backing up after a third-placed effort in last week's Group 1 – has drawn box six in the first heat, facing speedy rivals Smoke Home (box one) and Zara Zulu (box three) in a great start to the evening.

Temlee runner-up also looks to be hindered by the box draw, starting from box four in the fourth heat against Group winning-chasers Stetson Donna (box six) and Strong Intention (box seven), and facing the brilliant David Bale (box one), who has drawn perfectly.

2011 Victorian Dyna Tron will be looking to end his recent run of outs in heat five, but he too has drawn awkwardly in box seven against stars Don Chendo (box five) and Godsend (box two).

One of the toughest heats comes in race eight when champ (box seven) faces off against Group 1 Perth Cup winner , who will start from box six. If Radley Bale is successful, his 100th race start will take place in the Group 1 Australian Cup, rounding out an amazing century for master trainer .

The action doesn't stop there with two heats of the Group 1 Superstayers over the weekend, which includes the brilliant Miata, who will start from box five in the second of the heats.
