It is with great sadness that Australian Racing Greyhound report the tragic loss of Leon “Trump” Lenehan, yesterday as the result of injuries sustained from a car accident.

“Trump” had just enjoyed a night away from the Warrnambool Greyhound Track, at the Awards; where he saw good friend and co-worker at Warrnambool Greyhound Racing Club, win the Life Time Acheivement Medal.

48 year old “Trump” had attended the evening at the Crown Palladium Ballroom with his wife the night prior; and was less than an hour from home when strong winds blew a four-wheel drive directly in to their vehicles path, near Mortlake at approximately 1:30pm Saturday afternoon.

Details are sketchy but it is understood “Trump” was driving at the time and took the full brunt of the “head-on”, his wife is beleived to have suffered severe injuries in the accident.

Ken Carr Medalist, Billy McCosker was following the Lenehan's home from the function in another car and was one of the first on the accident scene.

“Trump” Lenehan took over track curating duties prior to the the Warrnambool Track Redevelopment and was widely acknowledged as greatly improving the Warrnambool Track surface during his tenure. He also oversaw the launch of the new track and was well liked and respected by all who knew him.

His loss will come as a great shock to the close knit Warrnambool greyhound fraternity and will be deeply felt amongst the wider community.

Our sincerest condolencies go out to his family and friends and our thoughts are with his wife at this tragic time.
