The Anniversary Cup has been won by some of WA’s best greyhound’s, Ben Abercrombie’s Hot Irish won the race last year in a slick 30.23. Vocal Enforcer (2011) and Pedrosa (2010) went on to win WA Greyhound of the Year the same year as taking out the Anniversary Cup.
Paul Stuart has two chasers in this heat, both jumping from outside boxes. Fancy Dreamer, a son of Brett Lee, put in a spectacular performance two starts back clocking 30.22. “Fancy Dreamer likes the fence, but he has performed well from the outside. He has also run the time to win the race.” Trainer Paul Stuart said. Dannie Bale has been up against tough rivals in Zelemar Fever and On Coin in past weeks. Although he has been unable to steal a win from Zelemar Fever he has always been within reach of the win. “Dannie Bale goes for the fence. He is poorly drawn as he is an average beginner. He will need luck in running.” Stuart said.
David Hobby has three runners in the heat, two of which are jumping from inside boxes. Houdini Monelli drew the favourable box, which will give him plenty of opportunity. “Houdini Monelli is a slow beginner and will need luck along the fence. He could come home strong if he is in the right position.” David Hobby said. Hurlee jumps from box three and after two weeks away from the track Hobby believes he will need the run, “The form is too good for Hurlee in this race.” Hobby’s third entrant is Luba Monelli, “Luba Monelli is in with a chance if she gains a clear run through the first turn. Box five won’t help her.”
Ben Abercrombie has the talented Burzynski jumping from box four. He is a fast beginner and has run times good enough to be in with a fighting chance.
The second heat showcases two of WA’s most exiting chasers, On Coin and Zelemar Fever. The previous two battles between the pair went to Zelemar Fever who jumped from box one on both occasions. This week the little black bitch jumps from box six making her job a little bit harder. On Coin has box seven for the third consecutive week and it’s only a matter of time before he is able to join the winner’s circle again.
David Hobby has received the red box with Merlot Monelli and believes that although his chaser has the red box he is only an outside place chance. Sveta Monelli and Ritchie Rich also line up for Hobby, receiving boxes four and five. “Although Sveta Monelli is not drawn well, if she is able to lead she will put on a show. Ritchie Rich has drawn the squeeze between two speedy beginners and will need a lot of luck in the race.” explained Hobby.
Paul Stuart’s third entrant in the series is Allen Gordy jumping from box two. “ He is well drawn but way out-graded, with the dogs in the best form going around.” Paul Stuart said.
