Eight chasers will pull on their respective rugs to take part in Cannington's Group Two Derby on Saturday night. The $40,000 to the winner final is made up of just the one interstate chaser, Darren McDonald's Tiggerlong Amigo; who is set to start favourite despite jumping from box six.
David Hobby's Prang Monelli looks to be WA's best chance from box two. His heat performance saw him come strong after missing the start. At 8.09pm Perth time the 530 metre boxes will open and the 2014 Derby winner will be named.
Comments: ARG opinion is – Got an easy run last week from box two finding the lead early on. This week will be harder with chasers like Ambitious Gem and Tiggerlong Amigo who have plenty of early pace.
Comments: ARG opinion is – Not the best of beginners which doesn't help his cause. If he is going to be any chance of winning the Derby he will need to find the lead early to hold off the likes of Tiggerlong Amigo.
Comments:ARG opinion – Last week in the heat he was unlucky not to come away with the win over Full Of Beans. This weeks test is a bit tougher, can't see him being able to hold off some of the talented chasers in the final.
Comments: Ben Abercrombie (Trainer) – “His strength is his ability to get to the front so he might lead this race. Just have to hope he is a long way in front for him not to be caught because he isn't that strong. If it rains it won't help him because he gets tired on a heavy track.”
Comments:ARG comment – Last week Deputy Chief put in a super performance when he thundered home to beat Jabba Da Pup. This week is a bit harder with dogs like Tiggerlong Amigo and Prang Monelli who are going to be strong to the line.
Comments: Darren McDonald (trainer) -“He will be very hard to beat if he comes out like he did last week, he also looked pretty strong. Full Of Beans should take out the inside dogs when he crosses to the rails and Ambitious Gem should be up there early in the race.
Comments: Linda Britton (Trainer) – “The best we can hope for is that he can run into a place. He is a little bit too inexperienced at the moment and it will be hard to beat Darren McDonald's dog.”
Comments: Jamie Marsh (Trainer) – “I think he will struggle because he is outclassed. Box eight is also a massive disadvantage because he likes to head towards the rails. I am just happy to be in the final.”
Comments: Stangafied isn't the best box dog and this will more then likely cost him the race if he gets a start, although he is strong it will take a massive effort to run down some of the talented chasers in the field.
