A SENSATIONAL night of racing is set to take place at Cannington on Saturday with the running of two Group 1's: the Perth Cup (530m) and the Galaxy (715m).
The Perth Cup has attracted a quality lineup with the favourite being versatile bitch Star Recall off the cherry. The daughter of High Earner and No Recall has been in terrific form recently and is drawn to make her presence felt.
Paul Stuart has three runners engaged in the final in Astronomize (box two), Quartz Bale (box four) and Starlight Jack (box seven) with each greyhound having a fantastic chance in seizing the prize.
The other major player in the $140,000-to-the-winner feature is My Bro Fabio (box eight), which scored an enormous last-to-first victory in his heat last week. The powerhouse black sprinter just need a touch of luck early to be a massive threat.
The Group 1 Perth Cup final is race eight on the card and is set to jump at 12:22am AEDT.
ARG's Brad Bugeja: “Track specialist and has taken all before her in recent weeks. Prior to her two recent wins here, she had been racing in Victoria and she recently captured the Sale Cup Final. She is highly versatile and she has blistering speed at both ends of her races. If she steps cleanly from the red she should just about hold them out at the first bend and if she leads I can't see them reeling her in.”
ARG's Brad Bugeja: “Exciting talent who has won six of nine to date and all of those wins have been in explosive fashion. Last time out he reeled off breathtaking sectionals before stopping the clock in a best of the night 30.05. If he can step away like he did last week he should match motors with the red for most of the journey and it should make for a stirring battle.”
ARG's Brad Bugeja: “Draw helped in his heat win and it was a pretty weak lineup. He was having his first look at the track so he should improve on his steady 30.55 winning time but I still dont think he can improve enough to be a factor.”
ARG's Brad Bugeja: “Poorly drawn tonight but he has probably the best turn of foot of any chaser in this field. Last week he was just steady to begin but once he hit the 40m mark he went into another gear before scoring in a blistering 30.12. He will need to do everything right in the first 50m but if he gets room to muster he will give the inside two something to think about mid race.”
ARG's Brad Bugeja: “Led for most of the journey here last week and was far from disgraced as he was gunned down right on the line. The rails draw was a big factor last week and from the middle pin tonight I think he is going to face an uphill battle. He is highly talented on his night but too many things need to go right for him to feature in this.”
ARG's Brad Bugeja: “Was probably the biggest surprise of the heats and he is unlikely to feature tonight. He has the speed to be in the firing line at the first turn but he just doesn't have the speed mid race to match some of the more fancied runners. Great effort to qualify but I can't see him making an impact tonight.”
ARG's Brad Bugeja: “Has won 11 of 17 over this journey and he was probably the most impressive heat winner last week, purely because he managed to come from off the speed and reel in a very fast chaser. If he pings away tonight he is obviously a chance of clearing them and winning, however he has done his best racing from inside draws in his career to date and I think he is going to have to work too hard in the early stages.”
ARG's Brad Bugeja: “Ridiculous talent who will unwind an almighty finish, last week he copped a couple of knocks in running but he was still good enough to score. The time was a bit disappointing but it was his first look at the track and I would expect him to have derived a lot of benefit from that run. He is going to be giving some brilliant chasers a big head start but he has done it before and with a trouble free run he will take a power of beating.”
ARG's Brad Bugeja: “Solid effort in her heat and she wouldn't be without a hope if she started, she has made a couple of Group One Finals in her career already and if she runs I would definitely include her in my exotic bets.”
ARG's Brad Bugeja: “Has a tremendous record here and is capable of running blistering sectionals, only concern with her is that she tends to fold up quickly when the pressure goes on in these stronger races. Has the talent to make an impact but has to lead and can't see that happening in this field.”
