Zelemar Fever Scorches Around Cannington On Young Star Heats Night

's Zelemar Fever stole the show away from 's heats on Saturday night, clocking a blister 30.06 over the 530 metre trip at Cannington.

The little black pocket rocket flew out of the favourable box one paying just $1.10 for the win. Her early speed saw her jump straight on the bunny in first position, giving 's Dannie Bale little chance of running her down.

“I didn't expect her to run that time.” Linda Britton said.

“I knew she is going really well and I thought that she would go quiet well, because a couple of the tracks she has run the quick times on probably weren't quiet as good as the track was last night.”

The 27kilo bitch out of – Noaki Pace has had just six starts for four wins back on WA soil after returning from Victoria.

“When she was running 30.20's, I think the track wasn't as good as it was last night.”

It was an unexpected surprise for Britton who is now quietly confident that Zelemar Fever will break the 30-second barrier.

“She can, she is only a length off breaking 30.”

“We will be very excited if she does.”

On her last vacation to WA, Zelemar Fever's strength looked to be her strong finish at the end of her races. This time around, although she is still strong; her early pace has taken its toll on her run home time.

“The way she is jumping I have no plans to put her over more distance now. She is going quicker early and not quite as strong as she was.”

“We will just move towards the for the moment.”

“We might look at some of the bitches races in Melbourne, but we will just see how things are going and how it pans out.”

In the Young Star heats, Cup winner Te Amo was the stand out; recording the fastest heat time of 30.34. Te Amo flew out of the boxes, going 5.61 early on the way to a comfortable victory. Ben Abercrombie's Burzynski got held out wide through out, finishing just over seven lengths behind winner Te Amo.

The second heat of the night went to David Hobby's Luba Monelli. Jumping from box three, she was far from the punters elect paying $5.60 for the win.

WA's freak dog, was placed in box four. He missed the kick and found himself mid field and unable to get a clear run until the 642 boxes. By then, Luba Monelli had gathered enough ground to hold On Coin off.

Hidden Runner for Roy Clarke took out the third heat of the night, the blue dog lead from start to finish hardly feeling the pressure from a strong finishing Celtic Coin. Hidden Runner stopped the clock at 30.63 seconds, paying $3.90 for the win. Favourite Astronomic faded mid race after putting pressure on the leader with Celtic Coin early, then powering home to run third.

John Iwanyk took out the last of the Young Star heats with in 30.73. Thunder Rama crossed to the rails as the field went past the catching pen. Linda Britton's West On Santo stumbled out of the boxes, managing to push his way through into second position. $2.20 favourite Mullet Hunter ran into trouble on the first turn, but was able to finish in third place.

In the age restricted final Linda Britton's Te Amo has drawn box one, with On Coin jumping out from box two.

“I'm really, really excited that she drew box one.” Britton said.

“She will have to be a real chance now.”

“It is a very strong field, you have dogs in it like On Coin from box two.”

Te Amo's early speed should land her in front of the field in the final, giving her a few lengths advantage over the strong field.

“If there is any trouble behind her, she is a bigger chance.”

“If On Coin doesn't get into any trouble, obviously he will be our biggest danger.”

Brother to On Coin, West On Santo put in a promising performance, giving Linda Britton her second entrant into the final. He will be jumping from box four.

“I was quiet happy with West On Santo's run, he probably will improve a little bit on that run.”

“He has to begin better then what he did Saturday night, he was woeful.”

“He railed through on the first corner and made up a lot of ground.”

West On Santo's inexperience around Cannington will be his downfall coming into the race. With only ten starts around the track because of injury, it looks to be only a matter of time before he begins to turn heads.

“If we can keep him going consistently, we will see a better dog.”

“We have had a lot of injury problems with him, like all of our West On Lee's.”

“I can't see him as the winner, but you never know.”

It is not just On Coin that Britton has her eyes on in the final. She rates Luba Monelli after her impressive performance in the heats as well as Burzynski who has the ability to jump close to Te Amo and the strength to run her down.
