Warragul Greyhound Club Provides Emergency Refuge From Bushfires
Warragul Greyhound Racing Club has opened its doors for emergency refuge from the Victorian Bushfires for greyhounds.
Warragul Greyhound Racing Club manager John Wilkins told Australian Racing Greyhound this morning “that we had about 200 greyhounds here last night” as fires ravaged Drouin and surrounding areas.
Mr Wilkins confirmed many of those greyhounds were able to return to their properties this morning, but that “Warragul would keep the kennels open to provide any assistance possible to the local greyhound community in these extreme circumstances”.
Some of the greyhounds seeking refuge at Warragul last night were beleived to be from Neerim South rearing complex, Blue Gums; and also from well known local breeders and trainers Eddie and Mary Lieshout.
Anyone likely to be impacted by bushfires in the area today is advised to abide by CFA guidlelines and to evacuate any greyhounds to the Warragul track well ahead of any impending fire front.
