West Australian Greyhound Trainer Derek Coldstream Fined $1000 & Suspended For 3 Months Over Welfare Issues

today conducted an into the condition of greyhounds as found by the Stewards on the 15th February 2012 at the property of Public Trainer Mr D Coldstream.

Evidence was heard from Mr G O’Dea, Industry Veterinarian Dr J Medd and Public Trainer Mr Coldstream.

Mr Coldstream pleaded guilty to a charge of negligence under R86 (o) for failing to take appropriate measures to ensure that greyhounds under his care were kept free of parasites.

When considering penalty Stewards took into account the following:
That all greyhounds on the property and the kennels therein were otherwise in good condition.
This was Mr Coldstream’s first offence.
Mr Coldstream had taken some measures to control the situation.
Mr Coldstream’s personal circumstances.
Seriousness of the offence.

Mr Coldstream was fined $1000.00 and his licence was suspended for a period of three months, expiring at midnight on the 22nd May 2012.
