Whodat Knockin’ Breaks Cranbourne 699 Metre Track Record

Some greyhounds hit the race track almost ready made and take to racing effortlessly, while others take maturity and experience before their full potential is realised.

Whodat Knockin' is a greyhound which perhaps falls into the latter category.

While the son of and Shanlyn Supreme (-Shanlyn Maddy) has always displayed heaps of talent, he has at times lacked the consistency and manners required to launch him into the top echelon of distance performers. This may all be about to come to an end however, if his performance of 41.00 at Cranbourne last Wednesday night is any indication.

Whodat Knockin' put his best paw forward when he smashed Yaroun Express' long standing track record of 41.33 over the 699 metres, which was set in 2001.

In fact this particular track record over the 699 metres at Cranbourne was the longest standing track record in Victoria at any track, over any distance, over which racing has been conducted on a regular basis.

A recent finalist in the One Super Stayers at during the Australian Cup Carnival, Whodat Knockin' began brilliantly from box four and at the winning post the first time had already a lead of five or six lengths, breaking the first sectional record in the process, at 7.13 seconds. Down the back straight the brindle speedster raced clear with a race winning lead over favourite Rocky Bale, who after a steady beginning, began to make good ground mid race.

At the line, Whodat Knockin had a length and a half to spare over Rocky Bale, who closed late, with Arejay Smokey ten lengths further back in third place.

The time recorded of 41.00 seconds for the 699 metres trimmed five and a half lengths off the previous record, and although the Cranbourne track has been conducive to very fast times of late, to shatter the previous mark by so much is quite remarkable.

Raced by the Whodat Syndicate, Whodat Knockin has now raced on 36 occasions for 10 wins and 12 minors, with stake earnings of $46,000.

Breeding buffs will have noticed Whodat Knockin is out of Shanlyn Supreme, a full sister to 2007 winner Shanlyn Prince.

The damline of Shanlyn Supreme has been a great producing line over a long period and it seems more success is imminent with Whodat Knockin' and Dark Warrior (x Wheres Pedro) both making their mark.

The trained chaser has already chalked up a sub 34.00 second run at Park over the 595 metres and has a win at Ballarat over the 450 metres in 25.25 seconds, demonstrating his versatility.

History tells us many stayers do not reach their peak until 2.5 to 3 years of age, so Whodat Knockin' at the age of 32 months, may just be coming into the high point of his career.

It would seem the staying riches are well within reach of this adaptable chaser, who judging by his Cranbourne performance, is very close to a or group race victory.
