Brooke Ennis’s Amron Tiger wins Whiskey Riot Classic
Amron Tiger delivered an unexpected yet thrilling victory in the Whiskey Riot Classic at The Meadows, clocking 29.89 seconds in a race filled with drama and late-race chaos.
Starting as a $15 outsider with the top greyhound bookmakers for trainer Brooke Ennis, the Fernando Bale–Rothwell Gal progeny surged through the pack to claim the prestigious 525m event and its $10,000 first prize.
The race saw early leaders Tommy Tequila and Grand Tour contesting the front, but a collision on the first turn disrupted the field.
Amron Tiger capitalised on the opportunity, displaying his trademark consistency and determination to charge home for the win.
Mepunga Tully finished second, 4.5 lengths behind, while Uriah Bale secured third.
Trainer Brooke Ennis commended Amron Tiger’s resilience, noting, “He draws horrible all the time in every race, and he just races so well.
It’s a credit to him.”
Reflecting on the race’s chaotic nature, she added,
“You know, it was really unfortunate what happened to the leader.
You know, I’m pretty sure we were going to run a really good second. So thoughts are with the Bravo there. It’s never nice.”
The Amron prefix carries a special significance, honoring the late Norma, a cherished figure in the kennel’s history.
Ennis explained, “Amron comes from Norma, and, obviously, it started with Amron Boy and Amron Dan. And, no, it’s a really nice legacy for him to carry on.”
Despite setbacks for other contenders, including Neds favorite Grand Tour, who appeared to sustain an injury, Amron Tiger’s performance showcased his potential and determination.
This victory marks his 12th career win from 44 starts, bringing his earnings to over $93,000 and solidifying his place among top-tier competitors.
