Some of Australia’s most talented greyhounds will make the trip to the picturesque Central Coast of Gosford for the running of the Group Two Gosford Gold Cup heats over the 515m journey on Tuesday night.
Four outstanding heats will be conducted, with the winners and second placegetters qualifying for next week’s enticing $40,000 final.
Romantic Affair (3) has an excellent record at the track with two wins and two second placings from just four starts. Back in March, the son of Bombastic Shiraz and Romantic Diva trained by Mario Abela, recording a blistering 29.53 personal best and has only been unplaced twice out of his twenty-one career starts. Osteria Mozza (5) is in top form at present, having won his past two at Gosford and Wentworth Park in solid times. Despite the tricky middle draw, the son of Where’s Pedro and Dusty Retreat has genuine early pace and recorded a fast 29.89 back in April over the 515m trip. Pantone Green (2) has drawn ideally in box two and has brilliant early pace. Trained by Margaret Keys, the son of Magic Sprite and Wind It Up recorded an impressive win at Dapto two weeks ago clocking 30.23 and has a personal best of 29.95 at Gosford from a second placing.
Cawbourne Havoc (3) recorded an outstanding win at Wentworth Park two starts ago clocking a sensational 29.73. The son of Brett Lee and American Spot can be a risky beginner, however this handy box draw and a 29.78 Gosford personal best ensures he will receive plenty of support from punters. Edge (7) was just nudged out in the recent Group Three Christmas Gift final at Wentworth Park by superstar chaser Double Twist and has a huge chance of claiming this from the wide draw. The son of Cosmic Rumble and Bella Tara has been faultless at the start and despite being on debut at Gosford, he is sure to have been schooled here by Hunter Valley trainer Graeme Barnett. Expect No Mercy (8) resumed from an 11-week spell with an impressive win at Maitland last week over the 450m in 25.37. Has a good box eight record and hasn’t been unplaced in his three starts at this track, with a flying 29.75 personal best recorded in June.
Awesome Project (4) is looking for his fourth consecutive win in this heat, after some sizzling performances at Maitland (565m, 31.91) and Unibet Gardens (515m, 29.71). The son of Collision and Honour Phase is trained locally by Bradley Canty. He has a huge motor and will be storming home at the finish. Ferly Reign (2) for Anthony Azzopardi has blistering early pace and is perfectly drawn on the inside. The son of Bombastic Shiraz and Ferly Gain hasn’t been unplaced at his past nine outings, and comes off an notable FFA win at Wentworth Park two weeks ago in 29.89. Ruby Dancer (1) has been in top form of late at Wentworth Park clocking 29.89 two starts back before finding trouble in Friday night’s Blue Paws final. Suitably drawn on the rails, the daughter of Knocka Norris and Penny Cool won her only start at this track last month, recording 30.09 and has been beginning well.
My Signature (5) sizzled along at Maitland on Thursday, clocking 25.07 over 450m and 25.31 the week prior. The son of Talk’s Cheap and Signature Rowe has an excellent Gosford record of three wins and one minor placing from four starts, including a near-record 29.40 personal best. The Leena Sweetman trained chaser has won four of his past five and only needs to overcome the tricky middle box. Group Two Black Top winner Billy Buzzard (2) is looking for his fifth consecutive win. He claimed the prestigious Black Top at Unibet Gardens back in August and then had a four month spell. The Dave Richardson trained chaser has won his past two outings at Gosford since his spell in impressive fashion, and has a speedy 29.83 personal best. Gradence (3) has had just the one start at the track for a third placing and is as consistent as they come, having only been unplaced once in his past fourteen starts. Despite being a slow beginner, he has a huge motor and will be humming at the finish for in-form trainer Mark Gatt.
Heat one will jump tomorrow night EDST at 8.34pm.
