Heatwave prompts greyhound racing schedule changes

Greyhound racing organisations in Australia have made adjustments to upcoming schedules due to extreme weather conditions, prioritising the safety of greyhounds, staff, and attendees.
Greyhound Racing South Australia move Gawler start time
Greyhound Racing South Australia (GRSA) announced a rescheduling of its Gawler meeting originally planned for Sunday, December 15.
The event will now take place in the morning to avoid adverse weather conditions expected in the area.
The first race is set for 8:32 a.m. (ACDT), with the last of eight races concluding by 10:42 a.m.
Kennelling times have been adjusted to run from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m.
GRSA emphasised that there will be no trials at Angle Park on the same morning due to staffing being allocated for the Gawler meeting.
The organisation will continue to monitor weather conditions closely and make further adjustments as necessary to ensure safety.
Greyhound Racing Victoria cancels Monday meetings due to heat
Meanwhile, Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV) has canceled all races scheduled for Monday, December 16, in response to forecasts of temperatures nearing 40 degrees across the state.
GRV CEO Alan Clayton stated that the decision was made after careful consideration of all available options, prioritising the welfare of greyhounds and everyone involved.
Clayton also urged the community to stay safe during the extreme heat, recommending that greyhounds remain indoors and well-hydrated.
