Just 64 remain in the running for the 2023 Million Dollar Chase first prize betting
After weeks of regional heats and finals, 57 greyhounds arrived at Wentworth Park on Saturday night from four different states to compete for the final 12 spots in the 2023 Million Dollar Chase semi-finals on October 6.
After 16 regional qualifying heats and finals across NSW that included the 2023 Group 1 Dapto Megastar and the 2023 Group 2 Black Top at The Gardens, plus four greyhounds gifted entry from the 2023 National Sprint Championship final, the final 12 spots were decided on Saturday night.
64 greyhounds will progress to eight MDC semi-finals next Friday October 6.
With the prospect of several greyhounds who qualified through regional finals unlikely to make the trip to Wentworth Park next Saturday night, the fifth to eighth fastest seconds, plus the city-qualifying third-placed greyhounds, may be afforded entry to the MDC semi's if required.
Notably, greyhounds like Palawa King who only just scraped through to next week's MDC semi-finals as the fourth fastest second, could equally head toward the 2023 Sydney Cup heats, depending on the genorousity or otherwise of the NSW GWIC Stewards.

After tonight's city qualifying heats, Victorian's Postman Pat and MacKenna remain at the top of the 2023 Million Dollar Chase betting.
A number of MDC semi-final qualified also trialled on the night.
Saige Tenneille trialled 29.66, Magistrate ran 29.80, and Albert's Memory recorded 30.19 in solo exhibition trials between races.
After the meeting a number of trials were also held with MDC favourite Postman Pat running 29.60, Magic Muffin trialled in 29.96, Tom Keeping posted 29.87, and Villante ran 29.99.
Greyhound bookmakers were clearly less than impressed with the majority of Saturday night's city qualifiers, refusing to price many of the newly qualified greyhounds in MDC betting, and totally removing impressive winners like Zipping Caleb, Lady Divine, Quantifiable, and 2022 Group 1 Melbourne Cup winner Yachi Bale, from the markets.
