Mepunga Tully is set to chase her second Group 1 title in the 2025 Perth Cup Final, with trainer Jeff Britton’s talented sprinter drawing box two for Saturday night’s $150,000-to-the-winner feature.

After securing the Australian Cup last month, the Victorian star produced an outstanding heat win in 29.48, reaffirming her status as one of the country’s premier greyhounds.

Jeff’s sister, Linda Britton, who has been overseeing Mepunga Tully’s campaign in WA, was pleased with the draw and the way the bitch has settled into Cannington.

“Yeah. Look, she uses a bit of the track, so hopefully, you’d rather be there than out wide,” Linda said.

“She’s a proven greyhound. She’s just won the Australian Cup, so she’s pretty smart and has got early pace. So fingers crossed. She can jump and use the box.”

Say hey to the social bet!

Mepunga Tully’s heat win was particularly impressive, setting up her victory with an electric 5.42 first split before running away to an eight-length triumph over Fleetwood Kazak.

“It was an amazing split over the back. She’s just a real professional. So, let’s hope she can do it in the Cup,” Linda added.

With a career record of 16 wins from 36 starts and over $80,000 in prize money, Mepunga Tully has developed into one of Jeff Britton’s top chasers.

She has won four of her past five starts, including a dominant all-the-way win in the Australian Cup final at The Meadows, stamping herself as an elite-level performer, with the top greyhound bookmakers opening her as the $2.70 favourite.

Take it to the Neds Level

While Mepunga Tully has only had one official start at Cannington, Linda believes there is still room for improvement leading into the final.

“Possibly, yeah. She was in form when she came over. So you can’t ask any more than that. If she runs up to what she did the other night, she’s still a good chance.”

Jeff Britton has entrusted Linda and Chris Halse with managing Mepunga Tully’s WA campaign, a process they are familiar with from past interstate campaigns.

“He just told us when to gallop her and what to do, but, generally, they leave it with us, same when we send our dogs over there, we do much the same thing.”

The Perth Cup final has drawn a high-quality field, with Steve Withers’ trio Boracay Summer (29.42), Morton (29.83), and Vincent Bale (29.81) also winning their heats impressively.

With so much early pace in the race, the battle to the first turn will be critical.

Mepunga Tully’s ability to produce explosive early sectionals gives her a genuine chance of leading and controlling the race from the front.

With Mepunga Tully in peak form and a strong WA team managing her preparation, Jeff Britton will be looking to add another Group 1 trophy to his collection.

If she jumps well and finds clear air, she could well be the one they all have to catch on Saturday night at at the time of writing.
