Que Sera Sera No Good Thing After Unflattering Run
In our 2008 Golden Easter Egg Preview we stood Que Sera Sera out as a good thing in Heat 6 of the Group 1 2008 Golden Easter Egg.
Currently $21.00 on the Sportsbet Pre Post Golden Easter Egg Market, she seemingly went enourmous at Warrnambool last night over the 450 metre trip, running a best of night 25.07.
However, as we alluded to in the 2008 Golden Easter Egg Preview, Que Sera Sera had trialled a stunning 25.06 at the Warrnambool Saturday morning trial session. That morning she trialled solo, running 6.43 to the first section, 12.21 to the second mark and 12.85 in the run to the line.
In Race 8 at Warrnambool last night she just managed to lead at the first mark in 6.47, took control to run 12.25 at the second section and stopped the clock at 25.07, running home in 12.82. She beat 40/1 long shot, Elite Law; by 6.75 lengths at the finish; although Elite Law was as close as two lengths behind her at the second mark.
On first impression it would seem she has done everything right and run right up to her trial. Except last nights track at Warrnambool was super quick. In the first race, a maiden, the winner ran 6.37, 12.21, 25.42. The third, another maiden, ran 6.57, 12.43, 25.50 and the fourth race, another maiden, ran 6.49, 12.45, 25.43 to win. More than a few of the low grade 5th grade races also ran around the 25.40 on the night as well.
At least one of the maiden winners normally only trials 25.90-26.05 and yet last night ran nearly 8 lengths quicker on the fast track. Given her quick Saturday trial and the condition of the track, Que Sera Sera has actually raced well under the form she showed in her Saturday trial. That coupled with the fact she has had plenty of recent racing, trialling and travelling, and will be expected to travel to Sydney again, could see her well and truly jaded when she steps out in Race 6 Saturday night.
Last night, she seemed sluggish and really struggled to show enough early pace to outstride the moderately performed Elite Law to the first mark. She will be meeting much stiffer opposition from Borat and Mountain Of Love in the Easter Egg heats and a repeat of Wednesday nights run could see her flying home without an appointment the following week.
