Ferdinand Boy steals headlines in Pink Diamond Series finals
Ferdinand Boy was one of the many highlights on Friday night at Ballarat as the Pink Diamond Series concluded.
The ‘Cups King' won well from box one in the $126,500 Pink Diamond Champion Sprinter Final for trainer David Geall.
He won in a time of 25.10 in front of Revolution and Panama Canal.
The Geall family commented after the race saying the powerful chaser continued to leave them “speechless”.
“He beats the best, and I suppose he is the best,” a family representative said in the post-race interview, with David Geall himself watching on from overseas in the UK.
The win was number 48 for Ferdinand Boy.
In what was a great night for greyhound racing fans, King Cunnington, took out the first final of the night, while it was a popular winner in the first leg of the quaddie with local Gary Peach taking out the Short Course Final with Silver Brute, a dog he bred, paying $2.80 fixed odds after being backed in late by locals.
Silver Brute remains unbeaten at Ballarat, with his trainer from up the road at Cape Clear proud as punch after the race.
Peach is appreciated in the industry and is the ear-brander in Western Victoria, so it was a popular result.
Michelle Mallia of Avalon won the first distance final of the evening with Aston Velvet winning for owner Ray Borda, while Jack Campbell won the biggest race of his training career with another Borda-owned dog in Aston Pablo.
Team Dailly kept its unbelievable Group-race strike rate going by winning race six with Zara's Ivan, who won by a big seven lengths in a time of 24.94.
It was also a popular win for Warrnambool greyhound participants with popular figure Phil ‘RedEye' Lenehan training 26-1 pop in Lektra Gal to win in race nine.
Lektra Gal won over the 390m distance in a time of 22.00 with those up Kirkstall and Warrnambool way said to have had a few dollars on the bitch.
Lenehan has bred manh a litter and has put his hard earned into the industry for more than 30 years.
And speaking of popular wins, it was a win for a greyhound we spoke about on this website a fortnight ago in the last race of the evening for Tracey Deglaitis with Snowy's Sister.
She led all of the way from box five to send punters home on a winning note after being backed into favourite.
