Townsville greyhound betting preview & best bets | Tuesday, 25/4/23
Townsville is set to host 12 races on Tuesday night from 7:15PM local time. There's two cracking finals with the “Tab Townsville Maiden 1000 Final” and “Anzac Day Trophy Final” with both respective finals carrying $5,000 to winning connections.
Best Bet: Redemption Day (Race 8)
The main feature race of the night attracts a strong country field with Redemption Day looking to live up to his name after going down last start over the 380m. Before this run, the Harold Hovi chaser was on fire scoring five successive wins over the 498m trip. The three-year-old son of My Redeemer has been the best 500m dog in Townsville for quite some time scoring in the 2022 Townsville Cup and I expect that to continue tomorrow night. Many of his competitors have either just recently stepped up to the 498m or have just stepped up to this grade and have to prove themselves. We're forced to take a short quote however, expect class to come to the fore.

Next Best: Showtime Pompom (Race 1)
Leading local trainer Brad Beflord has a stranglehold on the first race on the night having half the field under his care. Three of his four have been exposed and the best of those clearly appears to be Showtime Pompom at this current stage. A one-year-old daughter of Allen Deed, Showtime Pompom has shown great box manners and early speed in both her starts to date. On debut, stepping from box 7, Pompom was able to clear all rivals inside her before being surpassed by Red Car straightening for home. Her second start was much the same, showing good speed but failing to finish off and was claimed by White Venom. She visually finished off worse however, was 11 days between runs so you could argue she was a half a run short. The quick back up should be of benefit and she will easily cross her kennelmates inside to find the rails and ultimately lead. She has the exposed runners covered easily, her only concern is if one of the first starters has ability however, the lack of early money says otherwise.

Best Value: Winlock Punky (Race 11)
Winlock Punky is yet to taste success in Townsville however, one would have to think a win is just around the corner after his last few starts. A veteran of 41 starts, Winlock Punky brings the right form to a race you could throw a handkerchief over. Many of these dogs are crudely out of form and a large percentage would not have even recorded a win this year. Punky's past two runs defy the first statement as he has raced without luck and stormed home for multiple placings being only beaten collectively by 3L. The second statement is bang on. Punky's last win was at Goulburn on the 14th of April 2022 where he recorded a fair 19.95s win. The current $2.50 bookmaker favourite, Aurora Damiro draws directly outside and only beat Winlock Punky home 1L last week. With this in mind, the price gap seems large and there's value to be had in the penultimate event.
