Greyhound carcasses found in Queensland bushland
AN INVESTIGATION has been launched by the RSPCA and police after no less than 55 decomposing greyhound bodies were found in bushland in the south-east of Queensland, near Bundaberg, earlier this week.
RSPCA Bundaberg received the initial tip off of the animals whereabouts, having been found in the Coonarr region, approximately 360 kilometres north of Brisbane.
The RSPCA then inspected the site where the gruesome discovery was confirmed, with the carcasses said to be in varying states of decomposition.
The horrific discovery of the deceased greyhounds comes soon after a Victorian trainer was cleared of misconduct after he allegedly shot two of his greyhounds. The trainer, Simon Green, was let off due to the limited evidence provided and after considering the ‘Victoria Code of Practice for the Private Keeping of Dogs', which details shooting as an appropriate method of euthanasia.
The investigation into the carcasses is part of the Joint Greyhound Racing Inquiry Task Force which was recently established to investigate allegations of animal cruelty within the sport of greyhound racing.
One of the investigation's main focuses was to identify alleged acts of live-baiting after the barbaric practice was exposed on the ABC's Four Corners program in February.
The program aired footage of live animals being tied to mechanical lures as an incentive for greyhounds to chase, catch and kill after secret surveillance cameras were set up at a private trial track operated by Tom Noble.
Noble was one of 36 greyhound trainers suspended following on from the scandal and he has since been banned for life, along with five other participants.
Recently, the Queensland Government ordered an Independent Review of the greyhound racing industry to discover why live-baiting went undetected for so long.
The problem was more widespread than just Queensland however, with vision from both Victoria and NSW also revealing trainers engaging in alleged live-baiting activity, with 26 greyhound participants currently suspended across those two states.
Check who actually had them last – might be an interesting switch away from greyhound trainers…!?
By promoting news like this isnt doing the sport any justice should be focusing on the positive things in greyhound racing not the negative stuff all the time

Bloody disgrace!! He we go again!! Shame, shame, shame. Now we will all be back to being abused.
No good hiding from any of it. Talk about, deal with it. Only then we can hook in and get us back to the top where all can prosper. This awful shit must stop.
All will be removed I’d say Jenni

Sean we would be worse than Animals Australia, RSPCA, RQ, GRV or GRNSW if we pick and chose what we reported on. Our job is to report greyhound racing news. We would be no better than anyone else we often have a dig at if we only chose to report the good stories and ignore the bad or vice versa. During the whole live baiting saga we have presented the most balanced reporting of events of any media, mainstream or otherwise. Once you start trying to censor what you report on or what you don’t, where do you draw the… Read more »

An I know who in qld has been dobbing everyone in
I personally don’t agree with racing animals but know that there are good trainers and owners out there that love and care for their dogs. Who ever did this is not one of the good guys I hope they are found and punished!!!
So horrible, I hope this helps weed out the bad seeds of greyhound racing!!
Wtf is wrong with ppl ffs another negative story some ppl just shouldn’t be breathing air
This just proves how our industry leaders have let us all down
Can’t believe this, seriously, hope they find them and prosecute them to the full extent of the law, feeling sickened
Well I think its time for the media and maybe this website if they have the courage to ask the General Manager Racing Operations at Racing Queensland the following questions. Why would you not set up a full time GAP representative at Townsville to cover Townsville, Rockingham, Bundaberg and Cairns ? You had a meeting with the RSPCA at Townsville and they told you ” we euthanize100% of greyhounds in Northern Queensland, the reason is we have no room as we are full of pig dogs and working breeds”? After hearing this you/he eventually only allowed a GAP representative for 5 hours a week,… Read more »
The point of your comment is what exactly?
Recluse 60 Im liking what Im reading from Recluse …… in which lifetime is that an appropriate response? Why is QLD the only state that has been caught up in this yet to fire their board? Its disgraceful the industry goes …. we care where they come from, we care while we have them …….. after that, don’t tell us about it. No, if you can’t manage an industry that knows the entire lifecycle of the dog, then simple. We’ll shut the industry down and then it wont be a problem for you.
DaveSampson Recluse 60 Dave. Racing Queensland are arrogant beyond belief and its very much a boys network protecting each other and they are answerable to know one. Their paperwork is so out of date and behind its ridiculous. Some kennels hadn’t had an inspection for six years, yes that’s right six years, until the 4 corners programme. I understand that the kennels of one of those trainers warned off for life were only inspected 3 weeks prior to the ABC 4 Corners programme and were approved, the condition of a couple of those dogs left a lot to be desired. So… Read more »
This is the lady who was in the car
Isn’t it legal to put them down with a bullet to the head? Isn’t it a widespread practice to put down dogs that don’t show racing potential? That’s the impression I’ve been under. If they were killed humanely then what’s the crime here other than dumping an animal carcass? Don’t get me wrong, I think this is disgusting, but all the outrage from industry members is for show right?
Pink Penny Ignore the bogan.
Could have been worse. At least they weren’t tied to a lure and flung round a track while being mauled to death. At least they were given a quick death. That’s “love for the breed” right there.
This needs to be taken ALL the way. There should be penalties for any trainer AND OWNER euthanising ANY dog. This sport needs to be cleaned up immediately. Yes we speak about the crossbreds being destroyed day after day which imo is far worse however WE need to look at our own sport first and we can’t go forward until we put some rules in place. This is now, there is no time to waste.
Awful. Glad this was discovered & is being investigatedx
