Miss Elly Mint will attempt to equal the Australian record for consecutive TAB class or better wins when she lines up in box in the 515 metre Cipriani Stake Free For All at The Gardens on Friday afternoon.
Miss Elly Mint impressively won her 14th consecutive victory last night at Wentworth Park, when she bounded away well enough from box eight and then accelerated hard to lead all the way in a best of night 30.06, for an impressive win that brought back memories of her grand dam Franklin Mint.
Friday afternoon she will begin from box 2 in field of only seven starters and looks a moral to rack up win number 15 in a row at a track where she has had 30 of her 56 starts and been first past the post 20 times.
By taking her record to 14 wins on the trot she surpassed other champion greyhounds such as Bobniak and her own sire Elite State, who both managed to win their first 13 races unbeaten; and equalled the records of greyhounds of the calibre of M’Lady’s Fool who also managed 14 wins in a row.
By our records, the Australian record for consecutive TAB class or better wins appears to go the way of Kates A Scandal with 15 consecutive wins and is jointly held with Tasmanian Champion True Vintage.
But she has a long way to go to beat the all time Australian consecutive win record (including Non-TAB racing) which goes the way of Far North Queensland chaser Tropical One, who steered his way to 24 wins in a row. To make the effort even more impressive, all Tropical One’s consecutive wins were at one track, at Cairns and all were over the one 401 metre distance.
In the meantime though, Miss Elly Mint and Robert Smith have a date with the record books on Friday to equal the Australian TAB consecutive win records.
Have we got it right? If you know of any other greyhounds that have won more TAB and/or Non-TAB races in a row, please leave a comment and help us compile the Australian consecutive win recrod top ten for TAB and Non-TAB racing.
