Space Star scores an out of this world win in 2015 Gold Cup final
ALL eyes were on Space Star at Wentworth Park on Saturday night in the Group 3 Gold Cup final over 720-metres, with Rob Britton's chaser rewarding punters who took the extremely skinny odds of $1.60.
Starting from box four, the son of Bekim Bale and Tonto Tears was shooting for his fourth group win and didn't disappoint, recording a fast time of 42.01.
On a wet Wentworth Park surface, Space Star quickly sped to the lead at the top of the first turn and led throughout in a stunning 8.75 length win over Queensland chaser Mullaway, which made up good ground from box one to finish second.
Martin Hallinan's Zipping Felix also put in a solid performance, placing third.
Second favourite Sweet It Is missed the start and found a heap of trouble throughout the event, finishing fourth.
Saturday night's win was the 24th of Space Star's career at start 36, giving him an outstanding win percentage of 67%. Connections were the recipients of $25,000 in prize money, taking the 35kg chaser's total to $445,900.

Well – It appears you have caught the same thing Bruce has got. If Mullaway was making good ground, Ill go eat its dumps for a year – It railed well off the first turn when LAUGH WITH MARY went bush and at the post the first time it was in second place, around 5L behind Space Star – By the end of the race, Space Star had doubled that margin to 10L and had the 4 dogs behind Mullaway not bump and crash with each other approaching home turn, it would not have even run a place…. But no… Read more »
DogOracle well mullaway did run a place because he showed enough speed to get in front of the others who bumped and crashed and it was their fault they didn’t run a place. No point saying what should’ve happened, otherwise every race result would be different
Dimity Yes. I agree with you. However, the article stated he made good ground. If I did not watch the race, and just read the review and then decided to watch the race, i would of expected to see Mullaway to be finding the line well ahead of the others as opposed to flopping into second place. I just feel like a better summary or not even better but perhaps the correct summary would of been something along the lines of it utilised good mid-race speed and railing prowess and held off the others in a hectic finish for the… Read more »
DogOracle Dimity well i believe he made good ground to get into second position. i think your being a bit harsh in saying he flopped into second place. at the end of the day no one is going to mention her run because it will all be about space star.
