Charlie Azzopardi suspended by GRNSW over animal welfare concerns

The NSW Greyhound Welfare & Integrity Commission (GWIC) has taken the step to suspend Charlie Azzopardi, a registered participant temporarily while investigating alleged breaches of animal welfare.
The decision, made public on June 21, 2024, came after the GWIC reviewed evidence concerning Azzopardi.
Before enforcing the disqualification, under Section 59(1)(d) of the Greyhound Racing Act 2017 (NSW) Azzopardi was given a chance to present his side.
The Commission is currently looking into accusations of animal welfare violations involving registered participant Mr. Charlie Azzopardi as mentioned in a report by GWIC.
After assessing the evidence and giving Mr. Azzopardi an opportunity to respond, an interim disqualification was imposed by the Commission pending completion of its inquiry.
Azzopardi has been notified about his rights to a review and appeal process.
The specific details regarding the alleged animal welfare violations were not disclosed by GWIC.
Azzopardi is involved in the greyhound racing sector in NSW as a registered participant.
